Old test cut video...
In the ARMA video section there are a few clips from 2001. The event was held at a gym North of Atlanta & one guest speaker was the late Hank Reinhardt who did some test cutting. There is only one vid up now if him cutting a cardboard tube, but years ago there were two. If you look in the background ...

Violent Italian Soccer precursor?
I have no clue if the info in the video is accurate, but given the location, history of the Middle Ages, and the nature of other sports of the time it seems likely it is. Partly sharing partly asking if anyone knows anything more on the subject. Enjoy.

Re: Larger Danish axe...
Yes, I saw one in a museum on traveling and I think given how thin it was it would be impressive but not unweildable. as I stated I own a replica with an 18" head and it is a beast, but still not much worse than some halberds and other poll arms I have handled.

Larger Danish axe...
I am trying to find a decent, but not overly expensive, Danish axe with a 12" edge. I prefer a flared edge but isn't overly important. The largest Danish axes I can find online all are about 10" and on 4' shafts. Anyone know where I might obtain one?

Re: This is new...kinda surprised
I met John in 2001 & 2002 at events in Atlanta. The latter being at Hank R's house. I believe you were at one if not both events. What you say of John is the impression I got of him when meeting him. I also recall him being frustrated with Windlass. I recall him once saying that they "know how to ...

I have some questions on Japanese O Dachi. I know here is not the place to ask. But as I don't know a good scolarly forum for Japanese swords I figured perhaps someone here could help.

This is new...kinda surprised
Last time I heard John speak on the subject of Windlass swords he was not a fan. I just saw today that it appears they have teamed up. Not sure when it happened but I assume if John put his stamp on this line then Windlass must have listened to his recommendations for improvement. I'm curious as to ...

to further that idea
heavy leather, like shoe sole leather, also makes a good head with some flex for safety. it also can look more 'historic' as dussacks were sometimes leather and practice halberds, at least modern, are often so. I did have an all wood Danish axe made years ago by Purple Heart armories, it is a 38 ...

google translates hakubo to English as hakubo, ie no def. but then gives a 'did you mean' of some kanji that when clicked on say 'twilight' again odd

HA KU BO?
It is on the blade, and according to a translation dictionary 'hakubo' is Japanese and means 'aunt' in English...ok that didn't help. Maybe it is initials or something and not one word...hummm

I don't think it is historic, but I like the sword...
I think it isn't a historic sword, but it is aged. it was on ebay, and I do know that that is a GOOD SOURCE FOR JUNK! But I do like the design, the side rings and Viking like pommel to me look nice by design, but kinda think and clunky. However I wonder if anyone knows what it is? by that I mean it ...
