No pressure, but any idea when you would be up and ready again Mr. Chandler? (sorry i dont know you formally) My sparring group really want to get a hand on your weapons. I know they are pretty tough to put together and materials probably arent to hand. I dont mind waiting though, just curious.

I'll be making padded wasters again as soon as I get established somewhere more or less permanently. I'm kind of floating from one temporary spot to another at the moment. Probably in around 4-6 weeks.

The purpleheart paddeds are a little too lite, and are a little whippy.

I can see how you might consider them a little light. My Purpleheart padded longswords weigh 2.5 lbs each. It's certainly not outside of the historical range, though. But whippy? The ones I have are completely rigid. I rather doubt I could flex one of them even if I tried to.

I'm no expert, but they seem to work pretty well for me. Certainly millions of times better than anything I ever managed to build myself, especially because they don't break...

I can only speak for the single one I have held and flourished with. I don't own one, but I wasn't impressed with that one, glad you have one you like. I prefer to make my own stuff anyway.

Jeanry made a sweet little messer for Jake that has held up extremely well for quite a long time, even after being smacked over my hard head <img src="/forum/images/icons/shocked.gif" alt="" />

He's doing something right, thats for sure.

especially because they don't break...

Actualy i have one here right now that we broke about about a month ago in sparring, and last year we broke one at a 1.0.

Yes, I probably should have added "as quickly" to my earlier statement. They are much more durable than anything I've ever been able to make myself, but yeah, I'm sure they will break eventually. Once that happens I'll probably try out Lance's padded swords.

Out of curiosity, where did your PH padded swords break? Near the point? Near the handle?

I'm going to be in Austin for a few weeks starting in late October. If anyone in the Austin, Houston, or Dallas / Ft Worth areas (or anywhere else nearby) would be interested in doing a workshop on making padded weapons some time in the next several weeks, please PM me.

Corinne and I have a pair of Lance Chan's weapons, and we are *very* happy with them; we've been using for bouting and full-speed drills since last winter, with a session about once a week on average (it ought to be more, but life intervenes. <img src="/forum/images/icons/frown.gif" alt="" /> )

They're beginning to show some denting in places, but they're holding up well.
