When going down to Houston for a dagger class, you have to explain to your entire extended family that - no you were not challanged to a duel to defend your family's honor and infact you were just simply learning the art of killing with a very large knife.

I was recently reading the article by Gene on using kicks while in free play or sparring. Obviously kicking was used to some extent during swordplay historically, but I have never personally used a kick effectively in sparring, nor really have I tried. Its not something that has ever occured to me ...

Well, the bend in my sword occured when testcutting some heavy targets and a cut wasnt made cleanly through. When the target fell to the ground the person cutting didnt allow the sword to fall with the sword, creating a large bend in teh sword about 10 inches down the blade.

Id love to get this ...

I had a helluva time actually finding the pad - i went to 4 home depots a walmart and a lowes as well and came up with nothing. It should be in the hardware department or paint. I had to get another guy in our group to pick me up one ...

I have much the same as you along with a few files and such and some Hoppes 9 solvent for cleaning it up pretty well after testcutting and stuff. But the best thing I've gotten so far is the grey scotchbrite pad recommended by on Albion's site to take care of their blades. Good lord it works wonders ...

I completely agree. Having Ernie and his sword and shield as your opponent is something to be reckoned.
