Dan! What a bummer. If I had known sooner I would have had you up here for this weekend, just a few folks, and we would have gotten a practice going.

My father has given our son his pool table and that is the only weekend for picking it up.
Good news is next time we host down here there will be something else to do with long sticks at our house.

Well, My father has had an offer on his house that includes the pool table... so we won't be getting it. We will still be able to throw sharp pointy things... darts at the dart board.
This also means that there will still be plenty of places for sleeping and sitting which we needed more than a large table that requires all other furniture to exit the room.

Oh, one more thing, because several of you are getting hotel rooms in the area (very reasonable priced), I thought a few of you might like to crash together and share the bill. If you're interested in doing that email me and I'll hook you all up with one another.

Also, because there's still about 1/3 of the 101st ABN DIV still coming home to the area many hotels will be full-up, so I strongly reccomend getting your rooms in advance. If you absolutely can't find a room (but need one), let me know that as well, and I'll come up with something.

To which part of Texas are you moving?

Orange, which is about 25 minutes east of Beaumont. This is where I previously moved from. (Though I am not originally from there; I am originally from North Alabama. I know, sometimes it’s all confusing to me too.)

Anyway, when I first joined ARMA (then HACA), I was training with Todd Palmer in Lake Charles, LA (though I do not think he is an ARMA member any longer).

Your piano playing inspired our son. He had been thinking about lessons and wanting to learn. After seeing how much fun you had being able to walk in and play, he is now taking lessons. Thank you!

Glad I could help! I hope he does well and stays with it a while!

Columbus Day…, bah!! I only celebrate Leif Erikson Day (which coincidently, is the same day as Columbus Day this year.)

My wife and I, cant make it we have voluntered at church Friday and Saturday. Duty before pleasure and all that, but maybe next time.

A quick "bump" and last minute roll-call. We're starting at 0900...er, 9 am...for all "new" folks and 10 am for everyone else (though anyone can come early...I'm Army. I'll be up waaaayyyy early).

We've got loads of pumkins to cut, and there will probably be some pork shoulders as well. The pell has fresh padding, the wasters are freshly oiled, the swords have all been filed and polished...

I even washed my elbow pads. First time. Six years.

AAAAnnnyway...

We're expecting a pretty large turnout. I can't wait to meet many of you and see old friends again. And beat you all up.

Great day of training Jake! You are a humble and gracious host, as is your lovely family.

I just wish you were close enough that I could make them as often as you're considering. I definitely look forward to the next time I can make it over there to have your shoe thrown at me.

I had a great time, too. It's been about a year since I've been able to train for a full day like that. It was a good crowd that showed up.

Really enjoyed the event, it was nice to get back into things. I've had so much stuff going on lately that HEMA had taken a back seat to life in general and to other martial pursuits. Getting some good solid training in reminded me how much I love this stuff.

By way of introduction, I am Aaron Kavli from Dickson, TN. I attended Jake Norwood's ARMA study day and was duly impressed with how much I learned and how much fun I had and with all the great ARMA and prospective ARMA folks I met. I'm looking forward to the next time.

Someone there was taping and I was curious if that person (I am horrible with names and faces, my appologies) would be able to burn a copy and make it available. I meant to ask before I left and I would of course be happy to pay shipping, provide a CD or VHS or what not. We went over quite a bit that day and I could use a reminder.
