Most people here have been translating the word as "feather sword".

You mean these:

The other Maestro line swords, while being blunt, which forces a thicker (and thus heavier) edge, which forces a different design (because of the difference in weight) to retain the handling characteristics, do not use the same method, as was used with Federschwerter, which was to make the blade narrower (except close to the hilt, for some reason).

It seems to me, and this is based purely on MCMAP training that a good portion of your training should be attempting to actually strike your opponent with real force. In this situation it seems like you would use wooden swords.

I understand completely the idea that you cannot imitate fully the feel and handling of the real deal.

I guess for boots it would be better to hold off until you had a good handle on some technique.
