Mail Shirts

Hey guys, I'm after a high quality Mail shirt, and was wondering if anyone had a link to an armourer that produces them.

Also if anyone has any price aproximations that would be cool.

I'm after a knee or thigh length shirt with sleeves that extend just past the elbows.

Hey Randall thanks for the link I'm checking it out now.

Just some questions guys, are these site your personal recommendations? In other words have you had any experience with their products and can you vouch for them?

Also, what size links would you guys recommend, I want something that is actually able to stop knives and swords.

A extremely good question. Yes, I have personal knowledge of Crescent Moon Armoury (CMA). CMA is own by Parker Brown, who is a member of the ARMA and the ARMA DFW Study Group. Parker has formal education in metalworking art and is currently working on his Masters degree. Several of the DFW group own bucklers from CMA and a couple members own chain mail from CMA. What I must note is the good character of Parker Brown. As an artist Parker takes great pride in his work and he refuses to produce anything that is sub-standard, even when requested.

Hey Randall, that's excellent, I'm always willing to help out an ARMAteer ;)

I'll have to see about scrounging up some pennies then seeing if he does custom peices (I'm a Big Boy :P)

Randall,

Is the mail armour from Crescent Moon butted or rivetted? I can't tell from the photo, although the mail in the jewelry section appears to be butted.

Hi Randall,

Parker Brown may be a great guy, but the images on his sight look like butted mail to me. If you want a historically correct weight and accuracy you need to go with flattened rivited links. If I were buying mail, I would want to go as historically accurate as possible.

I too am not sure of what is shown in the pictures but given Parker's education, training, and experience in metal working I have no doubts that he can produce rivited chain mail.

Why do they all have such uniformly large chest sizes? For a lot of us skinny guys a 52 inch chest would drape off of us like a tent, even with extra garments underneath. I'd like to get a mail hauberk myself someday, but I don't think I've seen any of these sites that list a size that would fit me.

I am sure that some of the mail makers listed would be willing to do custom sizing.

Also might want to consider an arming jacket if you haven't already. They add a bit of bulk, no?
