Life has intruded and my fellow Swordsmen in the VAB Study Group have all been drawn off by the real world to far-flung parts of the Country for awhile. That leaves me pretty much in the position of needing to get a new base membership going in the VAB group while they're away. I'm getting rusty training alone.
If any of you folks browsing the forum from the Hampton Roads area want to get started in WMA and don't know just how to do it, drop me an email at powerkicker_777@yahoo.com and we'll see if we can't get you on the right track. The focus is on a structured, systematic approach to learning longsword and turning out darn good Swordsmen.
Here in VAB we study primarily Longsword and Armoured Longsword. If this sounds interesting , get in touch.

(Yes Rod, it's me again, maybe we can actually get together this time, new cell phone number, if yours is the same let me know and I'll give you a call).
..I've changed jobs within the Sheriff's Office, out of uniform and into Investigations, and my new Reserve unit allows me to drill during the week, which frees up my weekend schedule quite a bit.
Mr Smith, if you'll PM me, I'll give you my cell phone numbers (work and personal) and I'd be very interested to begin...
Hey man, good to hear from you. For a while I will be up North here. If you ever get back into RI, give me a shout as well and I will train with you. Haven't been back home in quite a few weeks though and miss the OBX... Anyhoo, as someone who used to make the drive each Saturday morn to VAB to train with Shane, I can recommend it to be worthwhile. You should do so as you become able. Congrats I guess on going plain clothes... Be cool to have two trained swordsmen living on our island...assuming of course, you start your training... (lol).
Hope to see you soon.

It occured to me that if I post a response to this thread and bring it back from the dead, it would appear at the top of the list again, and perhaps garner attention from some of the current Virginia Beach Members! Please excuse the necromancy.
Hello! I would be very intrested in joining th V.A. Beach study group! Please PM my for my contact info!

Hi Joshua,
I am currently recovering from a non-training related knee injury that has me on hold for awhile with fencing. It may be some time before I am fencing again and even then, it will be at a lesser degree of capability. I'm going to need at least a month to see where I'm at. Best regards...Shane
Oh, and Tim, you're welcome to visit any time. It was great having you and your father in town a while back.

I know I've contacted you in the past about coming out to ARMA VB. Unfortunately, I celebrated the new year by injuring my back (oops!) and so I'm probably limited in what I can do. Definitely still interested, just have to be cautious going forward.
I now have a pretty firm idea of when I can resume training. I will not be able to instruct until mid-March on Doctors orders. At that time, we will hold classes as normal except that I will personaly not spar any longer until I can get a total knee rebuild. That sucks for me because it had always been my favorite part of our craft but everyone else will be free to do so as they will once they have learned the basics.
VAB member Rod Thornton is always ready to spar when he's in town and I've had many of our General Free Scholars offer to come visit to spar any of VAB's newer guys on occasion. That is enough to get started with.
We will focus primarily on unarmoured longsword. We will go about the training a bit differently but the goal we strive for in ARMA will remain the same...turn out martially effective Swordsmen who cannot be outclassed by anyone.
If you do think you'd like to come on out, buy a nice wooden waster now in advance of that. Much of my loaner gear is almost unservicable right now. The new plastic wasters are inferior to wood in many ways in my experience and we use them for more sparring than anything else here in VAB.
Until march, watch the ARMA forum and learn all you can. I spend alot more time here now then I did when I was fresh into recovery. If you have any fencing questions or need more info on the VAB group, drop me an email or pm. I now have time to make timely replies and apologize for the delay.

I will be coming back home to check on things the week after next as well. I will telephone, but are we still going to train in the Park? I seem to recall as weather turned we always went to the Church gymn. Please advise so I can pack training gear to travel as appropriate. Joshua, Michael, I look for to seeing you...David...I look forward to seeing you again-been too long.

When and where do you guys train? I've tried to contact Shane but have been unsuccessful. I'm currently working in the area.
Thank you.
