Newspaper and PVC test cut

The first roll was on 2" thick newspaper roll with PVC shaft. Windlass 15th century longsword.

The second roll was on 2.5" thick newspaper roll with PVC shaft, Deva Slayer. The shaft was unable to support the momentum of impact and bent. The cutting stand's pipe was also broken under Deva Slayer's attacks.

Was that last one a sword or a club? I think you're draging your arms too much on those last cuts, which is part of the reason that the stand was falling over.

Hmmm some commented that I wasn't dragging enough. I'll experiment on it and take videos.

That's true. But that's what I got right now so I gotta stick with it until I get a better one.

Tried again with Deva Slayer after learning the specific way to cut with Chinese style. Very successful.

interesting way of doing it, but it obviously worked better. One thing though. Looking at hose rolls it seems like there was no pipe in this batch. Is that correct? Just asking. A lot better though.

No shaft this time because I wanted it more challenging. The shaft fixed the roll in place and thus wouldn't show a good cut from a bad, knocking cut.

It is easy to add the shaft for the next test cut. I still have some here. With the shaft on I can go for an even bigger roll.

Nice job! those were good cuts you gave!

Some critique on you students:

Student 1: His starting position looks very uncomfortable, and I would say that if he's trying to do a vam tag, then he's wrong. He also needs to extend his arms more.

Student 2: Biggest problem here is that his footwork and the strike don't match up. His foot lands consistently .5sec before the strike. Another problem is that he's trying too hard, in my opinion. He should be more relaxed.

I was trying some other methods to cut the newspapers rolls, and at the end try to cut a 3" diameter with wooden dowel. Not successful.

My tries on horizontal cuts. The 3 cuts were successful but it was very challenging.
