So Sword & Rotella is one of the many fighting techniques I have been extremely interested in but a question popped in my head. We all are pretty aware that the Rotella or Target was used with a Rapier, but was it also used with a Bastard Sword, or even a Side Sword?

The Target/Rotella was used with the sidesword quite frequently. See Achille Marozzo for one good example.

It's interesting to note that in the 1594 English translation of Di Grassi, the translator switches from using the term "rapier" in the earlier sections to simply "sword" in the buckler and target sections, even though the Italian version uses spada throughout the whole manuscript.

@Stacy. That's interesting! Maybe the translator switched between the two according the the context it was being used?

A wood and leather version of the targe was used extensively in Scotland in the 17th and 18th centuries with the broadsword.
