Thanks guys! It is an interesting topic, but very hard to research and write about since there is so much crap out there to and you need to sift through such huge amounts of material. And then trying to fit that material to the fencing culture of the Renaissance adds a whole new layer of issues.
I find it very interesting though, that although we tend to think of our fencing art as Arts of Mars, the fencers and the renaissance man appear to have not, instead associating the fighting arts with the Sun, alongside of poets and musicians. It truly was a performance art, not just the brutal killing of murderers, robbers and soldiers, which were associated with Mars.
Tons of threads to pull on in that article and more will come later.
