Clang, Neal Stephenson's Kickstarter Swordfighting Simulator

Post by Jonathan_Kaplan »

I was just browsing Slashdot, and it linked me to a very, very fascinating Kickstarter, and some associated videos and such...

This looks like, if it works, it could be a really major jumpstart for the hobby!

What do you all think? Is this for real? Is anyone from here working on it? Should someone from here offer their services? Is anyone here in the seattle area?

Doesn't mention any ARMA folk in Washington or Oregon -- the closest seems to be ARMA Sacramento. Is that right?

Fascinating. Neal Stephenson is one of my favorite authors. Good sci fi stuff.

Yes, it's for real. I've spoken to him personally about it, and he's quite serious. Though the kickstarter has officially "timed out," or whatever, the project can still continue on, if I understand correctly.

I believe he's studying with a HEMA group up in Washington currently, so I know he's got some resources up there to work with as far as getting people who know their way around a sword. The most helpful thing seems to be, aside from donating directly to the kickstarter yourself, spreading the word about the project.

Well, the Kickstarter is successful, and they are still accepting paypal donations on their website!

One year later - Clang just made its first playable alpha release, motion controller and all.

Looks pretty good! Slated for release later this year, after which they'll continue adding features, swords, techniques, etc.
