For those who missed it, be prepared for the HEMA Scholar Awards 2013. This is nearly set up now and will take off shortly. For this year, it concerns research published in English in 2012

This should probably be in its own thread as it is completely unrelated to the topic, so could the mods maybe move it?
Anyhow, the short answer is 'yes'. If you by sidesword mean a sword that is used as much for cutting as for thrusting. Keep in mind though that a sidesword can have just a cross, a cross and finger rings or all that as well as a knucklebow etc, etc. Lots of variations on hilt design for those...
If you look at Joachim Meyer, he even begins the teaching of the rappier by first teaching the Dussack (a steel proto-sabre).

Hello Roger,
I think you just answered a spambot copy-pasting my post here
I do actually wonder what the purpose of these bots is, they don't even link to something...
Regards,

Well that is the weird thing. I've seen copy&paste spambots before, but then they usually link to something. This one didn't, so I just figured someone posted in the wrong thread by mistake... Thanks for telling me. Maybe the mods can clear away the last few posts then?

Thanks for catching that, Vincent. I've started seeing those copy & paste bots on here only recently, and usually I catch them and delete them before anybody responds, but was too late this time. I appreciate any assistance in keeping this forum spam-free, so I'll leave this up as a reminder to please feel free to PM or email me if you see something that needs moderating. If you moderate other forums, be aware that some of these bots post without a link in the beginning, then come back later and add a signature link when the topic has moved on and nobody's looking. It's a sneaky way of getting back links.
