I am delighted to announce the "Real Fighting Stuff" Conference 2015, to be held at the Kelvingrove Museum in Glasgow. It is being organised as a joint effort between Triquetra Services (Scotland) and the Glasgow Museums.
In 2012, we ran the R.L. Scott Conference, bringing together more than 70 delegates and speakers from across three continents to celebrate Scott and his collection of arms and armour. In March 2015, the next conference will take place, and we look forward to seeing both familiar and new faces.
The event website is online now:

Dates:
Thursday and Friday, 12th and 13th of March 2015
Call for Papers
R.L. Scott's magnificent collection of arms and armour, which he generously bequeathed to the people of Glasgow, comprises 890 pieces and a staggering 3000 books and manuscripts. The main aim that Scott intended for this collection was to "provide an instructive survey of the history of arms and armour to the people of Glasgow".
"The Real Fighting Stuff" Conference will take place in the same city Scott chose as the home for such extraordinary pieces as the "Avant" armour (c. 1440) and the only surviving copy of the earliest printed book with illustrations on swordsmanship (Vienna, 1516). We hope that the setting will be an inspiration to continue with the goals set out by Scott and his contemporaries, and to expand on the study of European military history as accessed through objects of material culture in the form of historical arms, armour and written sources.
We welcome proposals for 20-minute papers on the usage, manufacture, curation, collection and representation of historical arms and armour of Europe from Late Antiquity to the Victorian Era, as well as literary and manuscript traditions that deal with European martial culture, thus continuing in the spirit of the studies undertaken by R.L. Scott. Papers that deal with some of the items in the collections held by the Glasgow Museums, or with the history of the collectors or their methods of collection are welcome, but not essential, as we are as interested in "the Real Fighting Stuff" as Scott himself. Papers on other, related topics will also be considered.
It is worth bearing in mind that the conference seeks to bring together participants of various backgrounds and levels of academic qualifications (academic researchers, museum curators, amateur historians, historical fencers and others), so presentations should be prepared accordingly. Abstracts should be no more than 250 words in length and should be sent via the abstract submission form by 30th June 2014.

I am delighted to announce that online booking has now opened for this event. If you visit our website you, will now be able to register to attend the event and reserve a place for yourself. We only have 100 seats due to the size of the venue, and places might disappear swiftly, so my advice is to book your place as soon as you know that you can attend the event.
The online booking form is available here: http://www.triquetra-services.org/confe ... ooking.php
